ASA Student Design Competition

The challenge was to design an art center for musical performances and musician residencies. The space is designed to accommodate housing for musicians, a recital hall, a multipurpose green room, and an outdoor concert pavilion with special consideration for its acoustics. In a team of 3, we ran acoustic simulations for each space to ensure optimal clarity for music and speech, pleasing acoustics over the hearing range, and sound isolation. Construction material, room geometry, acoustic treatment and HVAC design were carefully considered to minimize ambient and external noise. The design received an honorable mention at the Acoustics Conference in Hong Kong 2011.
